New Year's Eve in Baltimore is marred by a series of murders. A homicidal maniac shooter who leaves no trace has taken dozens of lives to the thunder of fireworks right in the city centre. At any moment he could be on the hunt again, and FBI chief investigator Lammark has no leads. Noticing the potential in young policewoman Eleanor, thanks to her professional actions and deep understanding of the killer's character, Lammark brings her into the investigation.
