For some reason, the ever-young and always well-dressed Koschey has not been able to find a bride for three hundred years. He has intimidated, kidnapped and turned various queens into frogs, but these advances have not helped the prince of darkness. Meanwhile, the beautiful bogatyr Varvara has only been busy fighting off suitors in the arena who have laid eyes on her dowry. However, having got hold of Koschey's needle, King Gorokh thinks of a way to get at Barbara. Except that he did not take into account one thing - though Koshchei's death is contained within the needle, love may yet live on in his heart...
