2004. The basis of the case, which is investigated by detective Harry Hole, are a few mysterious murders that took place in Oslo. Experience gained on a training course at the FBI, makes Hole search for any relation between the crimes. And finally, Hole finds them: all the victims were married women with children, and soon after the killing on the spot of violence always appeared snowman. Going to the old unsolved crimes, Hall discovers other cases in which there were the missing married mothers and as the evidence - only a snowman. All of this gives grounds to believe that the detective went on the trail of the first serial killer in Norway. Now Hall has faced with the difficult task - to find the offender and make him incur the sentence.
